A discussion-based class that introduces students to art education, specifically in urban classrooms using culturally relevant pedagogy.


ARTE 5120/6020:  Visual Art Education Foundation II

A discussion-based class that extends knowledge about culturally relevant pedagogy and social justice in art education.  Focused student inquiry that leads to curriculum formation.


ARTE 5111/6111:  Saturday Studio Field Experience

A community-based program that serves approximately 80 – 100 students, K – 12, from the surrounding Cincinnati area.  Preservice art educators develop thematic units, lesson plans, material selection, and classroom management. 


ARTE 5121/6021:  Field Experience II

An immersive experience where preservice art educators observe and work in Cincinnati Public School art classrooms with seasoned art teacher hosts.


FAA 8095:  Graduate Teaching Workshop

Instruct, guide, and mentor MFA graduate assistants through the process of teaching at the university level.  The focus is on the development of pedagogical theory, curriculum philosophy, syllabus creation, lesson planning, critique and assessment.


ARTE 5122/6022:  Teaching Art in the Age of Technological Change

A philosophical inquiry into the use of technology, focusing on technology use in the art classroom.


ARTE5131/6031:  Student Teaching Seminar and Practicum

Organize and support mentors and student teachers during their in-field experiences.  Conferences and goal setting accompany the lesson creation and delivery. Special support is given for the unique virtual teaching environment that teachers faced with the 2020 pandemic. 

An accompanying seminar supports the student teaching practicum.  Dialogue and community building focus on classroom management practices, lesson plan creation and delivery, and culturally responsive teaching

Employ and mentor visual art instructors for both programs.  Create, implement, and train instructors on CBAE and camp curriculum, philosophy, policies, and procedures.  Develop, plan, and manage the non-profit budget specific to marketing, personnel, and grant writing. Oversee the camp accreditation process for the ArtsConnect Kids Camp.

Led professional development workshops on Arts Integration for the faculty of Woodford Paideia Academy. Conduct one-on-one support with teachers through conversation, information, and resources.  Future professional development workshops planned throughout the academic year and into the fall of 2018.


Education Consultant, ArtsConnect, Springfield Township, 2015-November 2016. Conducted comparative case study research of CBAE programs to present to the ArtsConnect Board.  Consulted with the chairperson of the Board to create and implement a viable CBAE program for the Township.
